Three of us * made it out today.

Conditions were not ideal: a gale was blowing from the south southeast, gusting over 40 mph, and rain was forecast.

The first part of the ride was great - west northwest on the A417 and then through Uffington. Turning right at Longcot and on through Shellingford the cross tail wind was still helpful, but turning towards the south at Gainfield it got a bit more challenging.

By the time we reached Charney Bassett the promised rain had set in and we had a choice to make: turn north followed by a long exposed drag into the strong wet headwind, or reroute in an easterly direction. We unanimously chose to carry on eastwards through Hanney and on to Steventon. This allowed a more sheltered return to Wantage. Sheltered from the wind perhaps but not from Storm Barra's downpour.
