Away Ride - Hungerford

Chris Walters - 07901 827132
9:00am at Hungerford Town Hall
Ride Category

Third Sunday – An all-day ride starting away from Wantage, so you'll need to either ride or drive out to the start point. The ride will be Blue or Red grade and include lunch and maybe other refreshment stops. The ride should finish by 17:00 (or 30 minutes before sunset during winter months).

An away ride from Hungerford Town Hall (park for free at the station car park) taking us into Hampshire.

The main hills are got out of the way relatively early in the ride - Combe Gibbett from Woodhay, and Conholt Hill. From then we can enjoy the vistas from Chute Causeway before descending to the awesome greasy spoon Chef's Delight in Tidworth for lunch.

The afternoon takes us to Netheravon before passing Crofton for a possible ice-cream stop shortly before arriving back at Hungerford.

Overall it's just about worthy of a "hilly" ride rating, but after the first couple of lumps, it's more undulating than tough. We'll ride at a sustainable pace, so everyone is welcome to give it a go.

Summer Wednesday – Weekly evening ride from Wantage at either Blue or Red grade, which will complete before sunset. We will have a variety of paces and terrains across the summer season.

A few less ridden roads this evening. Heading out to the Letcombes (but not the usual way) and then not quite to Lambourn via Hackpen Hill. Back over the downs via the Sheepdrove Road (I've never ridden this road this way round so maybe you haven't either!). Descending off the scarp via Sparsholt Firs and then a flat bit via Goosey and Denchworth. No doubt there will be a (beer) at the KAH at the end :)

Lights are a good idea now as the evenings start to draw in. Aiming to finish before sunset as usual though.

Welcome Ride

Fourth Sunday – A morning ride starting from Wantage especially aimed at welcoming new riders to the club. The ride will be Blue grade and may include a refreshment stop en route or at the end of the ride. Expect to be back around 12:00.

A very chilled and easy-paced spin to Abingdon for coffee. Reasonably flat ride through Grove, Kingston Bagpuize, Appleton and Cumnor. As posted, there are more hills in the second half, including Steventon Hill and the Ginge loop. But depending on the composition of the group, we may vary the route after coffee and keep it flat back through the Hanneys and Grove.

First Sunday – An all-day ride starting from Wantage. The ride will be Blue or Red grade and include lunch and maybe other refreshment stops - expect to be be back by 17:30 (or 30 minutes before sunset during winter months).

A long 120km ride out to Henley, undulating, but only three notable climbs, so do-able by all, and we'll take our time to make it a long Blue ride.

Out via familiar roads to gain the distance and then into the Chilterns, before a "live off the land" lunch stop, probably at the River and Rowing Museum or Henley Piazza cafe.

Returning back onto the edge of the Chilterns and down to Goring to get back to Wantage again on familiar roads.
