Burford and Fairford

Four riders (Lyn you need to pay your subs!!) on a cold but sunny morning in Wantage.

A very annoying block headwind out to Burford but still a pleasant ride. Surprisingly the road alongside the Windrush to Burford and Sherborne was new for at least 50% of the riders. Loads of snowdrops in the verges and the threat of snow in the air at one point!

The roads on top of the Cotswolds in this area are glorious, especially in the sunshine. A few stingers around Quenington made the legs burn but we were soon in Fairford at the Lynwood café. A very pleasant stop, small but the service was very quick and pictures of famous cycling climbs on the walls. I left a few business cards in the toilet (!).

The route back to Wantage was pretty direct and the wind was annoying again when we turned to the east. The Sun had gone in by now too. The A-road drag from Lechlade to Faringdon was quite tough. We were soon in Baulking and possibly the hardest stretch into the wind before we turned on the A-road back to Wantage arriving in the Market Square just after 1.30pm and spot on 100km.

Thanks for coming along for a very pleasant ride on a very pleasant day despite the annoying wind!!
