It was a pretty nippy start but with a helpful following breeze, we managed to get to Beaulieu in good time for coffee and the rather excellent Cinnamon buns perpetually on offer at the Bakehouse.

Fortified, we cracked on through the amazing colours in the Rhinefield and Bolderwood ornament drives; the hills dispatched with relative ease as we arrived at the Red Shoot Inn for a delightful lunch, and even some puddings.

Off again with the sun now hiding (chilly!), past the delightfully named Sandy Balls campsite, and then up Roger Penny Way which is a long drag at the best of times... in a headwind it's even longer and draggier. That was the last real lump of the day, and for late comedic effect, Rachel and Ian swapped bikes (I don't think Ian got any say in the matter!) for the last couple of miles. Neither were a good fit!
