Conditions were windy, cloudy but mild as we set off from the Market Square. Jez decided to spice his ride up by giving the rest of us a head-start then performing 10km solo TT in order to catch the peloton. After that the group got a bit fragmented on occasion as we pushed into the wind on the way out to Lechlade. Some strong riding at the front meant that a good average speed was still achieved and we arrived at Hillier's at 10:30 for cakes and breakfast foods.
The return was a much easier affair as we benefited from a strong tail wind much of the way. A crafty piece of route planning at Watchfield Defence Academy left astonished riders whooping with delight.
The timing of this ride was double lucky. We were in the cafe as a rain shower passed over and got to the finish 10 minutes before the deluge. Everybody scattered at the end to avoid the rain so no pub today.
