Away Ride

Louis Hall - 07767 220534
9:00am at Burford - car park, down Church Lane
Ride Category

Third Sunday – An all-day ride starting away from Wantage, so you'll need to either ride or drive out to the start point. The ride will be Blue or Red grade and include lunch and maybe other refreshment stops. The ride should finish by 17:00 (or 30 minutes before sunset during winter months).

A 100km tour of the Cotswolds starting out from Burford, lunching in Chipping Norton and returning before an early dusk at this time of the year.

Warm up in the gentle Windrush valley to Barrington and on to the first bump at Farmington. We then turn north into more traditional Cotswold topography, with pauses as appropriate at tops of hills, before culminating in the climb out of Guiting Power. If there is a westerly we will be set fair through the Slaughters and Stow-on-the-Wold as we head to a familiar favourite lunch stop in Chippy.

After lunch the planned route meanders eastwards to Kiddington, south through Stonesfield before rejoining the Windrush valley at Crawley for our return to Burford, though there are options to foreshorten the route if required.

Lights and mudguards are strongly recommended.

Fourth Sunday – A morning ride starting from Wantage especially aimed at welcoming new riders to the club. The ride will be Blue grade and may include a refreshment stop en route or at the end of the ride. Expect to be back around 12:00.

Straightforward anti-clockwise loop out to Boxford and back, with a vale warm up before Hackpen Hill. This is an all-inclusive blue ride with re-grouping wherever necessary. Possible coffee stop at Saddleback or, more likely, in Wantage. Minor tweaking of the route possible!

Fifth Sunday Ride - Vale of Aylesbury

John Talbot - 07752 957363
9:00am at Culham Lock
Ride Category

Fifth Sunday – Anything goes! May be a morning or all-day ride, starting in Wantage or elsewhere, and at Blue or Red grade, including refreshment stops appropriate to the ride. A chance to do something different...

An opportunity to explore a bit further east than we normally do. The ride starts at Culham Lock where there is a large free car park. Easily accessible from Wantage for those who wish to ride to and from the start.

We'll head out to Wheatley and explore the flat lanes in the Vale of Aylesbury. A late breakfast, early lunch or elevenses taken at Orchard View Farm.

From here we'll take the easy way up onto Bledlow Ridge and along the top of the Chilterns via Christmas Common. We'll drop off towards Ewelme and Wallingford where we can grab a coffee before the easy run back to Culham.

The ride is bang on 100km but it's not very tough with lots of flat riding so I've classified it as blue.
